The World : ABC iview

Protests have broken out across Venezuela, a day after the country’s disputed election result. Police fired tear gas to try and disperse rock-throwing protestors in the capital, Caracas while some protesters gathered in several parts of the city and banged pots and pans to signal their discontent with the result.

Nicolas Forsans, co-director of the Centre for Latin American & Caribbean Studies at the University of Essex tells ABC News The World’s Beverley O’Connor that it’s time for Maduro to realise that “there's a finite period of time” for which he will be able to hold onto power, especially given mounting pressures by protesters and the international community.

ABC News provides around the clock coverage of news events as they break in Australia and abroad. It's news when you want it, from Australia's most trusted news organisation.
