Despite a surprisingly strong win, Ecuador’s young president faces a storm of violence, recession, and political fragmentation.

Ecuador’s president, Daniel Noboa, has won a second term with a surprisingly decisive margin, defeating his leftist challenger Luisa González in the April 13 runoff. Just two months earlier, the race appeared too close to call.
