Despite not having the popularity of his predecessor and political godfather, Hugo Chávez (1954-2013), and governing in the midst of an unprecedented economic, political and humanitarian crisis, Nicolás Maduro has remained in power for 11 years and has just been re-elected president of Venezuela , in an election contested by the opposition and much of the international community.
